I am wanting to replace MY old recpticals with new ones.My old wiring in my house is 2 conductor wire no ground wire. How can i replace these with new ones and properly ground the recptical
sprky,
I was going to replace a switch in our new-old house (maybe early sixties), with a comnbination switch and outlet. The purpose is tohave power next to the phone outlet so I can plug in a porable phone. The switch is the push off push on type, as are all the switches in the house. The inspection noted that there were open grounds in allthe areas of the house. I have not looked into the panel to see if there is a grounded system. However there is no ground wire in the switch box. There is romex (gray fibre coated, 10 two wire, no ground), and the switch has a black wire to one terminal, a white to the other. There is evidently no neutral. There are no three prong outlets in the house. When I tested the black and white wires in the outlet box with a multitester one (white) showed a normal 110 and the other showed current, but only a small amount, maybe about 20V. The switch controls a ceiling light. I want it to continue to control the light and have the outlet continually live. Now I'm stumped, and I DON'T want to rewire the whole house. What to do?
