Question

The other day my wife was charging a battery for the video cam, when she unplugged the charger the outlet popped ( arced ) and tripped the breaker. Left a nice burn mark on the plate. I changed the outlet and so far seems to be ok. Was this a bad outlet or could there be something elese wrong ?

Thanks
Steve

If it hasn't occured since you replaced the outlet, chances are it was a bad outlet. One question concerning the old outlet -- were the wires wrapped around the screws on the side, or were the pushed into the holes on the back of the outlet? If they were pushed into the back (quick-wired), I hope you reconnected it with them wrapped on the screws. A few years back the size of those holes was changed to prevent a no.12 wire from being able to be put in them. This came about because of problems with the tensioners inside the outlet losing their tension over time and the outlets failing.
