Ceiling Fan/Outlets

I installed a ceiling fan, everything works fine until I turn the light off. The circuit breaker trips when the light is turned off. Also I have three outlets that are giving me fits. When I plug the tester in the light will light up. When a household item is plugged in it doesn't work. Any ideas?

Hi Scottp,
There may be several options here.
However, if you had no problem before you changed the fixture, then your problem is confined to the fixture box. You have switched some wires somehow.
I would go back and recheck the fixture box connections. You may need to open the switch box and ring out the wires to the switch to confirm which is which in your fixture box.
My guess is that you have other parts of the circuit joining in the switch box
