I have a very small bathroom and the only outlet in it is one on the light fixture above the sink. I bought a new 3 light vanity fixture to put up, but I realized I would be losing the only outlet in the room when I install it. Do I have any options here? As a novice on wiring, would surface wiring be something I could do to add an outlet? thanks!

Yes you can. But before you do, is the switch handy to the sink?
If so, check the switch box (with the power off), to see if you have more than two wires in that box (Two blacks on the switch,
two whites connected together). If that checks out, you can use
a switch/GFI outlet combo in that box. Otherwise you will have to install a new outlet, either directly in the wall, or surface mount.
