ceiling light

my closet light chain (string) came out of the housing unit. how is this reattached? thanx

The entire fixture probably only costs a few bucks. I recommend replacing the fixture. Shut off the breaker before removing the old fixture. And when you remove the old fixture, be sure to pay careful attention to how it is wired and wire the new one the same way.

In porcelain lamp bases I have reattached them before, they just snap into a chain slot in the base. In other fixtures a new switch will cost about 1 buck. either way shut the power off first.
