Installing a Ceiling Fan

Installing a Ceiling Fan
I want to install a ceiling fan with the light fixture operated by a wall switch. I have an outlet that I can tap into. How do I connect the power source (from outlet) to the fan and then the fan to the light switch? The fan has 3 wires: black, white, black/white.

Here's a useful link I found that may help you.

The Lowe's page is full of useful information, but it doesn't say how to install a fan if the wiring isn't already in place. It says, "If additional wiring must be done to install your fan and you are not familiar with wiring, consult a professional electrician." This is standard liability avoidance.
If your receptacle is currently unswitched, you'll need to run a new 12/2 (or 14/2 if on a 15-amp breaker) cable from the receptacle to where you want the new switch. Then run a second cable from the new switch to the ceiling.
If your receptacle is currently switched, then you can run a new cable from the receptacle to the ceiling.
You could also run the cable as you suggested in your post (receptacle to ceiling and ceiling to switch) if it will be a lot easier, but it is not the cable routing I prefer.
This information is just a high-level outline. I suggest you read a book on home wiring to learn the techniques you will need. Or post back with more specific questions and we'd be happy to provide more help.
