Accidently I have cut the romex wiring in a place in my home I cannot easily replace the wire itself. What is the correct and safe method to reattach the wires.

Kivil,
I am not an electrician. However, if you have cut the wiring completely in two or damaged it, then set an electrical box and wirenut it properly inside the box. This box has to have future access, so you must install an electrical box cover, and NOT bury it in a wall or ceiling. If you have any other questions, one of the pros in here (Sprky, etc.) will advise you about code, and how to do it, if necessary. Good Luck!

Old Guy you are correct if the wire has been completely cut into it must be put in a j-box with a cover and left so that it is accessible. Now if you have just nicked the wire you can get away with using a good brand electric tape and putting several wraps around it.
