Question

I used a volt meter to test the wiring to my range hood and there is no electric coming into my range hood. I flipped the breaker and that did not fix it. It stopped working suddenly and no other outlets or lights have quit. Any suggestions as to how to approach the problem

Thanks

Cool

Do you think that maybe someone jumped the wiring to the range hood off of a gfci outlet nearby in your kitchen? If so, test/re-set nearby gfci outlet. If the hood is on its own circuit breaker, did you flip it all the way off before flipping it back on to re-set it? If these two simple possibilities don't help, use an electrical tester and test the breaker on & off. Might be a bad breaker. I'm not an electrician, but this is where I would start. If this doesn't help, just come back in here and one of the pro electricians can help you better. Good Luck!

Old Guy has some pretty good ideas in his reply.

History tells us that most electricians will get power for a range hood from the nearest switch or receptacle. It is against Code to get the power from a kitchen receptacle but it seems to still be a very common wiring design.

You might also check to make sure your switch has not gone out in your range hood, check for a loose wire in a wire nut in the switch boxes in the area of the fan on both sides of the wall, check for a loose connection in a receptacle in the area of the range hood on both sides of the wall.

A range hood pulls very little power. Electricians commonly get the power for it anywhere most convenient.

Good Luck
