possible mole or snake
What could have just dug a hole the size of a quarter right next to my front steps? There is small brown dirt balls that run about 6 inches before the hole. Does anyone know what it could be? Snake? Mole? Yuk!

Even though this is not an electrical issue I would look for wasps or hornets or yellow jackets. If your front steps are cement more then likely they are hollow (some times they put straw bales down and pour cement over them makes great nesting for bees) I for get which ones I had a while back. I think they were hornets, I think wasps tend to make their nests higher up in the grey cone shapped nests.
