Question 2way switch shorting out

I am having problems with a 2way switch connected to 2 light sockets.

Whenever the switch is turned off, or is in the off position, the breaker is tripped. When it is in the on position, or on, the power works fine.

Breaker Box to switch, switch to light1, light1 to light2, nothing else is on that circuit.

I have tried anything and everything to get that thing to work, but nothing is sucessful, anything i do, when in off, breaker trips.

Please Help!!!! I dont know if i can remain sane much longer.

did you just install it? and did you connect it black-black, or black-white? If its black-white you will need to connect it black-black and tie the whites together with wire nut. Unlike a recepticle that is connected black-white the switch needs to switch the hot side open and closed.
