door chimes
I just bought a house, 11 years old, and am tring to reconnect the door chime. There a three connections in the unit, but I have four wire choices. I have done chime installs before, but the extra wire is throwing me off. Also, when I play around with the connections the unit will not stop firing and produces an audible hum, which I assune, is just the motor trying to continually fire. There is no back ringer, just the front door.

hope this helps
I may be jumping the gun here, but im gonna assume that the four wires that come in there are two of one color and two of another. If this is the case, you should be able to tie the similar colors together then take the two left over and attach them to the two screws on the left, or the top depending on how the chime is mounted.

How many terminals are on the chime and how are they identified? You mention "4 wires"- are these in "cable pairs"?. 2 or more wires enclosed in a jacket is a cable. For example you could have a 2-wire cable with a Red wire and a White wire (cable pair) between the chime and the chime transformer and a 2-wire cable between the chime and the door button. If you seperated the individual wires there would be 16 volts on the cable pair from the chime transformer. An ohmeter across the cable pair to the door button would deflect to Zero when the button was pressed.
