sealing plugs

when using an exterior wet location box it has the note " to maintain raintightness all plugs must be sealed with a sealing compound" Ive always just used latex caulk around the threads. Is there something better? Or am i Ok with the caulk? Thanks-josh

Thumbs up

The latex caulk should work fine.I use silicone and apply it to any fitting threads as well as any plugs that are used.

You have to use what the manufacturer specifies that you should use to seal the plugs. There is nothing in the NEC that tells you what to use to seal those plugs but, the NEC does state that you must install and use the equipment consistent with UL listing.

The manufacturer is the one that tells you what sealer to use to remain compliant with the code in this matter. The rquired sealant can and will usually vary from manufacturer to manufacturer.
