I have recently been doing a little research on wiring as I plan to try to wire my unfinished basement now that I have it framed. This may seem like a dumb or basic question, but here goes. I wanted to have a couple of outlets handy for doing work down there in the meantime. I pulled power from the from light fixture in each of the two rooms. I have two books one says brass screw is hot, the other says silver screw. I went with the brass. The outlets are working fine but just wanted to make sure. Does it make a difference? Also any tips for a newbie would be appreciated for finishing a basement.

From a light silver should never be hot. TIPS: read, plan, ask. there is now stupid question when it comes to your safety.
