Wiring Closet light to switch

I want to convert my closet light to a switch along the wall. What is the best way to wire my closet light to a wall switch? Is there a way to run this wire without going into the attic?

hello Texme,
yes there is a way to wire your pull chain light to a switch with out going into the attic, but it is exposed and not as cheap.
here is what u will need to do this; 1 singel pole switch, 1 wiremold switch box, 1 round wiremold box e-ring, 1 wiremold inside corner, enough wiremold to go from switch to light(probily 1 10' stick), if your light is not in a location where u can go in a straight line from light to switch u will need a 90 deg turn for wiremold, enough thhn black wire to go from light to switch X 2 + 2', enough thhn green wire to go from switch to light + 2'.
here is how you do this
1. turn off power to circuit
2. remove pull chain light
3. install wire mold e-ring
4. install wiremold switch box
5. run wiremold between switch box and light, useing what turns u need
6. run wire threw wiremold
7. in swiytch box dubble pigtail(2 small pieces of wire aprox 7" long wirenutted to another wire to produce 2 ends) the green
8.attach 1 green to switch box and other to green screw on switch
9. attach each of the black wires to the gold screws of the switch and install
10. in light connect 1 black going to switch to the black in light
11. connect other black going to switch to the light gold screw
12. connect white to the light silver screw
and install
13. turn power back on
