J-box height for wall scones

Hi,
What is the proper height for the electrical box for a wall fixture, wall scone?
I was told 7 feet but that seems high.
thanks

The normal height is 84" but, normal in this case is a relative term. If you are installing them for yourself, you put them where you want them. Some things to take into consideration are, will there be any artwork hanging on the walls, are the sconces being used for ambience lighting, what's pleasing when looking at the whole room, what kind of furniture will be placed where.

If you are installing them for a customer then the answer is simple. Put them where the customer wants them!

There really is no set rule here as these lights are usually installed to create mood lighting.

Also consider traffic flow. If the lights are above a couch, they can be lower than if they are in a busy hallway. You don't want to bang your head or shoulder on them as you walk by. Bottom line is to hang them where they look and work best for you. You might consider looking at other homes (friends, model homes, showrooms) to see which ones you like, and mount them at the same height.
