Question Ceiling light change to outlet

Is is possible to change the ceiling light in my garage to become an elictrical outlet? What do I need to do with the wall switches? What do I need to do with the light?

The reason I'm asking is that I bought a new iDrive garage door opener, and the motor, which sits above the door opening, has a sensor on it that shoots back to the light, which is supposed to be plugged into the ceiling, and turns the light on/off when the door is opened/closed.

Thanks, Mike

Yes, it's possible. You need do nothing with the switch -- you can leave it there if you want. But if you're worried that people will turn it off, you can remove the switch, connect the two wires together that were connected to the switch, and put a blank cover plate over the box.

You can do anything you want with the light. Throw it away, sell it at a garage sale, ...

Make sure you have some other source of light in your garage for safety reasons.
