5 wires

hello, i am trying to replace an electrical outlet in the bathroom, I have lost track of the way i took it out, there are 5 wires, 3 comming from the top that are black, red, and white, and 2 comming up from the bottom, that are black and white. This outlet also runs the ceiling fan and outlets in the bedroom. How do I fix it>

More correct to say you are replacing an electrical device. If the device is a single-pole switch that controlled the bath-room fan then the Red wire probably connects to one switch terminal, an 8" Black lead that is wire-nutted to the 2 Black wires in the box connects to the other switch terminal, and the 2 White wires simply connect together-----Good Luck!!!!!

too many wires

I have a bedroom upstairs being remodeled. Have a new switch to put in, but dont know where the wires go. The swith is the same size as a regular outlet but has a switch on top and 3 prong outlet below that. Theirs about 5- 6 wires coming from the wall, some are hot, some are not. When the switch was taken out, the overhead light in the bathroom downstairs quit working. No power to switch down there now. Im thinking somehow wiring upstairs in in series with downstairs, because aint worked since. I dont know what wire goes where, and dont understand the directions on the box.Read More

Circuit Breaker Box Question

Hello All, I am selling a condo unit and the buyer just had the home inspection completed. One repair that was listed was that there needs to be "anti-ox" paste applied where the aluminum and copper wires meet in the circuit breaker box. I started calling electricans from the yellow pages for estimates. I got mixed reactions about whether this was a necessary repair. It sounded like this would be a simple matter of just putting paste on some wires. But the estimates are based on a minimum of 1 hour of work so they were about $100. So I have two questions: 1) Do this "repair" really need to be done? 2) If so, can I do it myself? 3) If so, how? Thanks!Read More
