Burnt bulb trips breaker

What could cause a burnt light bulb to trip the breaker. The fixture has 6 bulbs and twice this week when a bulb burnt, the breaker tripped.

Sometimes when a lamp burns out a small piece of the filament will break off and short out the two internal wires that supply power to filament. This short piece of filament can have a low enough resistance to trip the breaker.

Thank you for your reply. I've been worried about fire. I took the fixture down and don't see any exposed wiring. The other bulbs have a black film at their base which new bulbs don't have.

I want to install some outlets in a 12 x 6 foot room that only has 2 ceiling lights.The switch operating the lights is on the outside of the room(on the other side of the door) so I figured to take the power from the 4" box on the ceiling that the flourescent lights are connected to.The outlets would be switched,but that is better than no outlets at all.Does the wiremold company have a fitting that I can build off the box on the ceiling.It is exposed.I'm thinking a connector of some kind to attach from the knockout on the box with an offset to connect the raceway along the ceiling and the inside 90 to come down the wall.The hardware stores are closed right now,but I would like to start planning this project this weekend so I can get right to it Monday when they open.I do know that Wiremold is the brand of product that they sell around here.Any help is greatly appreciated. Old Wiring "problems"

Hello All: I live in a older home that has 2 wire service through out the house. Federal Pacific Panel When I test the outlet's it shows an open Ground. 'cause it's 2 wire " I'm aware of this" my question is can I replace the old 2 prong with a GFCI and then install my surge protectors and have the same "security" as with a 3 wire service. Now I'm not sure if the panel is Grounded either 'cause I cannot see through it. Hehe the wire's are unprotected "no conduit" What can I do to be at ease with what I plug into the wall outlets Everything I own is just about Brand New Washer, Dryer, Fridge, 60" , 50" & 35" television's, Several computers I'M Renting Toooo. :( Another Question: I just bought 2 large commercial wire racks to setup all my computer equipment on. Is this a safe pratice or should it be grounded aswell?
