You Can Ring My Bell

Hi-

someone pushed my doorbell outside and it got stuck for a while. Afterwards when I noticed, a loud sound was coming from the doorchime box inside the house. I pressed the doorbell from the outside to release the button, now the doorbell does not work. what can I do to repair this?
thx for any help or suggestion.

Basically, the ringer burnt up inside the door chime. Replace the ringer; probably have to get a wholenew chime/ringer unit.

circuit failure after replacing outlets

I'm sure it's happened to someone else??? I replaced outlets and switches on a circuit. I followed black to brass and white to silver with all outlets grounded to copper. I turned the breaker back on and there was no power to the circuit. I thought the breaker failed and it was replaced as well. It was not the breaker! I then replaced the outlets thinking one of my $1.25 outlets failed.Read More

Proper use of butt connectors in home wiring

I'm moving an existing receptical to a new location on my wall. I ended up cutting one of the existing wires too short and need about 6 more inches. Can I use a butt connector to splice in another short piece of 14/2? I thought I could use the connector and then use some electrical tape to tape everything together. Is this safe?
