Partial Outage

I lost power in half of my 1955 house last night. All of the effected rooms/appliances can be traced to 4 circuit breakers (which were not tripped) and the wiring from those 4 breakers takes 4 different paths out of the box. The electric company is investigating any possible external problems, but I would assume that the problem would have to be internal. Any ideas?

Any time you lose power to half your house, it is indicative of losing one leg of your power. The first response should always be to call the power company. Only after they rule out a problem on their side should you have an electrician check for loose connections in your panel (since the first approach is free to you).

You must have been exactly right... the electric company just called and said that my power is up and running. Thanks.
