i am remodeling a basement room, and drywalling over 2x2 furring strips, will be adding a few new outlets on this wall running 12/2 wire, standard size switch boxes are too deep with the 2x2 , would using a shallow depth 4x4 junction box (14 cubic inches) with a conversion cover on top to 2x3 size be acceptable (cover adds 3 cubic inches to box volume) for 2 12/2 wires per box? thanks

Outlet Rating verses Wire Size

I have recently rewired several of my rooms in my home, and after reading several post regarding the wattage ratings, here is what puzzles me. The outlets I used are rated at 15A, 125V. I bought several contractors pack, and the instructions state that you can put 14 - 10 gauge wire on the lugs. The quick connects on the back only allow 14 gauge. If the instructions state that you can use 12 or 10 gauge wire at the lugs, aren't you over loading the outlet, and creating a hazard. I used 12 NM wire for my rooms, but now I am concerned that I have the potential to over power the outlet with 2500 watt rated wire, and 1875 watt rated outlet. The breakers are 20 Amp. Why would the manufacturer state you can use higher rated wire than the outlet is rated for?Read More

Track Lighting

I live in a manufactured home.I have installed track lighting where a cieling light was.The track lighting consist of (2)two foot pieces.I have attached two pieces of romex about 12 inches long to each track and wired all to the cieling source wire which is hot.The tracks are now hot !!!!. Now the switch,when i pulled it there were 3 individual romex wires.(3) black (3) white (3)copper.One goes to smoke detector above switch.Lets take that one out of circuit for now. Now we have (2)black (2) white (2)coppers.I attached Blacks to a standard switch,tied copper together and whites together.The switch now works.Now is time for a pat on the back. replace switch with dimmer now black on black,green to copper.this should work.dimmer has 2 black 1 green this should work. what to do please helpRead More
