Track Lighting

I live in a manufactured home.I have installed track lighting where a cieling light was.The track lighting consist of (2)two foot pieces.I have attached two pieces of romex about 12 inches long to each track and wired all to the cieling source wire which is hot.The tracks are now hot !!!!.

Now the switch, when i pulled it there were 3 individual romex wires.(3) black (3) white (3)copper.One goes to smoke detector above switch.Lets take that one out of circuit for now. Now we have (2)black (2) white (2)coppers.I attached Blacks to a standard switch, tied copper together and whites together. The switch now works. Now is time for a pat on the back.

replace switch with dimmer now black on black, green to copper.this should work.dimmer has 2 black 1 green this should work.

what to do please help
