electrical lighting installation
#1

We have just installed a ceiling lighting fixture in our kitchen. The wiring we used was no longer in use and used to be for a stove exhaust (which is no longer there). We installed the fixture OK, but the only way we can turn the light on and off is via the circuit breaker - as there is no switch that effects the new light fixture. How do we easily install a switch for the light or is there an alternate solution?

Simple, you do a switchloop from the lighting box.
Run a 2 or 3 wire cable (if you anticipate a celing fan being installed and wish wall control of it) from the fixture
to the switch. At the switch, connect white and black tot he switch. at the lighting fixture, connect the black power to the white wire goting to the switch. Connect the Black from the switch to the black on the fixture. If possible, mark the white wire on ad going to the switch black.
