Question hot water heater

braker for water heater trips will not reingage .
if wiring is disconceted at water heater braker works
whats wrong?
reset butten not tripped on water heater

You have a short at the water heater. Inspect everything closely. Disconnect the wiring at the upper element that goes to the lower element to find out if the short is in the upper half or lower half.

You need to turn brkr off and drain heater. They actually sell a wrench o fit the element if you dont have one,, either 1 1/2 or 1 5/8ths,, dont remember,,, then drain heater. All hardware stores sell replacement elements. If there is bunch of stuff in the bottom it is what caused the failure. You need to vac it out,, fashion a hose to do the job,, replace the element and FILL COMPLETELY with water before turning on. A heater that is not full has an element life of about 5 seconds.
