Old home upgrade
Just bought a 1956 1020 sq. ft. ranch. We upgraded the service to 200 amp with breakers from 60 amp with fuses and had GFCI's put in the kitchen and the bathroom.
I'd like to have a few new 20 amp circuits run for the kitchen, a couple in the dining room, 1 for the computer room. Can someone give me a ballpark cost for an electrician to run a new 20 amp circuit with wiring and outlet?
Virtually none of the outlets are grounded. What would it take to have the outlets grounded?

I recently got quoted $100 per drop including materials. A "drop" is a recep, switch, junction box, lighting box or connection to the panel. It was a ballpark quote, and he said that if I wanted two receps within a few feet of each other (kitchen, for example), it would be much cheaper than $100 for the additional drops.
The quote was for new construction and/or accessible wiring. Rewiring into existing construction was to be billed at time & materials.
Hope this helps ...

Grounding the outlets will either require a separate ground wire (typically green) running from the outlet to the panel, or a short green wire connecting the outlet to the metal box, provided there is a run of metal conduit/boxes all the way back to the panel.
Not that difficult a thing for the DIY-er, but it does take a lot of time and patience.
