Unhappy electrical baseboards

Can you paint electrical baseboard heaters? I think that you can but want to check with someone who has experience. I'm in Canada and my instinct is to use TREMCLAD which is a multipurpose rust inhibitor. However, do I need to prime, can I use latex instead. If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated.

You can paint the heaters in Canada (at least in most areas not really sure on Ontario their new code book comes into effect next week and I haven't seen it yet) providing you use a high temperature paint and are only painting the outer caseing and not painting the thermostat. Simple latex that is not rated for metal will heat and crack it will not really do the job. The best primer for this and it is car primer. Try a spray can from Canadian Tire. Personally I usually sand and prime it looks better.
