Lightbulb bathroom fan and light

I have a 60 year old capecod with a single bathroom. If the bathroom light is left on for a while (approximately 30-45 minutes) the fan will turn on all by itself. It runs for about 30 seconds and then shuts back off. Is this normal, or is there something wrong with it?

if it is a light/fan combo it may have a thermocouple that turns on the fan when the temp rises in the fixture. if it isn't a combo fixture something is amiss. john

fan/light combo

It is a light/fan combo. So the turning on and off is normal? I have had light/fan combos before and never had one come on like this. I just want to make sure that it's not crossed wiring or anything that will turn my home to a cinders while I am at the grocery store.

Just a guess, but you may have installed a bulb that exceeds the maximum wattage allowed by the fixture. Most fixtures are limited to 60-watt bulbs. If you have a 75 or 100 watt bulb in there, either replace it or uprade you fire and life insurance.
