junction box
what would be the advantage of bringing to different hot lines into one junction box? i have a box that seems to have two hots coming in and four lines coming out, two on each circuit. why?

For any given situation, there are a million ways to wire it, and a number of reason for each one. It's difficult to say why you have what you have without being able to see the other pieces of the puzzle. Maybe this saves wire. Maybe it saves boxes. Maybe it splits a multiwire circuit. Maybe it provides flexibility. Maybe it was done to reduce box fill in other boxes. Maybe it's just an arbitrary choice for no particular reason at all.
