help needed lighting circuit

my upstairs lighting has gone off but 2 lights still work its all on the same circuit any ideas

Check the light bulbs.
Check for GFCI on the circuti somewhere.
Check for bad switch.
Check for bad wiring connections. The back stab connections are notorious for going bad

Sounds like you're saying that some things on the circuit work and others dont. Here are the most likely explanations:
  • Tripped GFCI (although not the most likely explanation if lighting but no receptacles is all that is out).
  • Burnt out bulbs.
  • Wire came loose. This loose wire could be anywhere on the circuit, and you just need to do a time-consuming search. The first thing that is not working and the last thing that still is working are the first two things to try. Look for loose push-in connections and loose wire nuts. Of course, turn the breaker off first.
