I am trying to fix some telephone wires for a new apartment for a friend. During the framing phase of construction, the three (3)telephone wires were disconnected from this "punch" box, where the 3 lines join from the one incoming line. Also, apparently, when the lines were originally stapled, the staples went right into the wires so, when they were dismounted, the phones died.
So, I cut the staple-damaged sections of the line and look for similarity of color wires with the phone end to figure out which line goes to which phone. Murphy's law applies, so the colors don't match. The lines each have 6 wires, of which only 2 wires only are used at the phone ends.
Is there an easy way to match up the 3 lines to the phones without having to rely on matching colors?
Thanks in advance,
Ed

Here is a link to a site with the standard color codes. "T" equals "tip" and "R" = "ring".
If the apartment has two different sets of wires, match the T & R for each. (example: T= Green = White/Blue; R = Red = Blue/White)
