bathroom exhaust fan

I am replacing my existing exhaust fan with a fan/light combination. I was told when I purchased it that no additional wiring would be needed. The new fan calls for three wires, to control the fan and light seperately. Can I use the existing two wires and run the fan and light together.

Apparently your existing exhaust fan only had two wires feeding it so your new fan/light must be wired so both the fan and light operate at the same time. To operate the fan and the light separately would require an addition wire fed from the fan/light to the wall box. To answer your question; "Can I use the existing two wires and run the fan and light together", the answer is "yes" you can.

Light fixture dimmed/not working

Hello, I have one light fixture (a pendant light) that would frequently flicker and then go out. Turning the bulb one way or another would cause the light to come back on temporarily, but it was getting so annoying I stopped using it. Today, I switched on the light, it flickered several times and then went out. I smelled something burning, which went away after 10 minutes or so. I'm not sure if this is something I can fix or if it requires an electrician, so I'm hoping you can give me some advice. Thank you.

Wall switch replacement

I replaced a wall switch that controls a light in my bathroom. The old switch had white and black wires with a bare wire not used. Based on the postings that I read in your forum, it appears that this is a "loop". As noted in the forum, I connected the black and white wires to the two posts and connected the bare wire to the green screw. My concern is: Should one of the the wires, the black be hot with the switch off? I have a current detector and it beeps when I test the black wire with the switch off. Is this wired correctly?
