transformer overheating

transformer overheating
I installed track lighting and the transformer controlling lights overheats and lights go off. The light is controlled by a old dimmer that was already installed. Any idea why this is happening? Thanks for any help you may be able to provide.

Two reason I con think of.
1. The transofrmer can not be controlled by a dimmer unless the transformer is rated for that and you use the proper dimmer.
2. There are too many lights on one transformer.
