Electrical Layout software

Since there is software for everything this must exist!

I am looking for some type of program that will allow me to design the layout of my house and then diagram the indivdual outlets/lights/etc and their corresponding circuits.

I have several 3d home architect type program but was wondering what the pros use? Do they?

At work we use blueprint/layout maps to locate our data ports and I would like to be able to do the same for my house.

Thanks in advance

Engineers use Autocad. But most folks don't need all the capabilities of AutoCad and can make due with the Home Architect type programs.

You might find something. One of the ongoing problems with software involving life safety issues is liability. Professional Engineers are ultimately responsable for whatever they seal off. It does not matter WHY it failed. You are on the hook if you sealed it. The structural guys I know use in house developed software. They are not putting their license on the line for someone elses software. I use spreadsheets to keep track of things, but a checker still goes over it by hand to verify the numbers. If there are questions, another checker will review the data. You spend an amount of money (time) commensurate with the risk.
