Wiring in "box"

I had to frame a box around some ductwork in an addition I put up. I'm going to be running some wiring through that box as well. Are there any "rules" for how the wire can be run through there? Should it be stapled up against the joists, lay down on the "bottom" of the box, or is there no specific way to do it? Any suggestions? Thanks...

The cable must be supported at least every 4.5 feet. You can therefore just lay it on the 2x4s that form the bottom of your soffit. However, I'd probably recommend stapling them every so often anyway.

I think you also may need to make sure the wire is stapled (secured) within 12 inches of the box as well. i.e. runing a cable to power a light fixture thru a box that will contain a switch and on to the fixture box.

Secure the cable as John said and also secure the cable going in and out of all boxes.
