Garbage Disposal

Everytime I turn on the garbage disposal it kicks off the GFI. This unit is only 2 years old and has been working ok up til now. Is this something I can handle repairing myself and if so where do I begin or do I need to call a electrician?

Thanks for your help

Most disposals are not on GFCI, so they don't have this problem. I'd start by replacing the GFCI receptacle -- they don't last forever. That's about an $8 experiment. If that doesn't work, I'd simply remove the disposal from the GFCI. This of course isn't 100% comfortable, but it's cheaper than replacing the disposal.
