Red Wire

I have one light controlled by 3 switches. They each have a white, black and red wire. To what screw do I attach the red wire?

This is insufficient information, and it doesn't all make sense.

The only way (short of wiring systems like X10) to control a light from three switches is with two 3-way switches and a 4-way switch. Although a 3-way switch can be wired with a black, white, and red, that is one wire too few for a 4-way switch.

Even if the information was consistent, we still wouldn't yet be able to answer your question, because there are many different and acceptible ways to wire the switches.

So we need to walk through this step by step. Can you answer the following questions:

What are you trying to accomplish? What is your project? That is, why is the red wire currently disconnected?
Check again carefully to see if one of these three switches has four insulated conductors rather than just three.
Are there any other wires behind any of the switches connected with wire nuts?
It's likely that we may need you to examine the wiring at the light too, but that can wait a bit.

Hi,
What you have is called a 4 way.It works using 2 3way switches and 1 4way switch. There are many different wiiring schemes.Your question cannot be answered with the little amount of information that you provided. We need to know where the power comes in and the # of wires and colors at each switch location and light in order to answer the question.Try this link to see all of the combinations.
Post back and let us know if this helped or not.

Make certain that the power is off while your are working on this circuit!!!
