FPE/Challenger GFCI

installing the electric for a hot tub. thats the easy part. the homeowners panel is a FPE. real old. ive already advised them to change the panel out,added in some personal horror stories(not to panic them, just to explain), but it did not seem to change their minds. this brings me to my problem. does anyone know of a gfci breaker compatible with a fed. pac. panel??? i did a web search, and all i can come up with is stuff on recalls of FP stuff that is 15 years old. any ideas??? im looking for a 1 pole 20A

I could be wrong, But I think Westinghouse now makes the breakers that will fit FPE panels try this site and see is the gfci breaker listed is compatible.

Buzzzing Doorbell

I hope I am asking this in the right section, but I have recently had some problems with the doorbell to my home. The house was built in 1951, but am not sure how old this system is. The problem: when someone used the doorbell last, it "stuck" so that there was a continuous buzzing sound. The button itself didn't stick, there was just a continuous noise. This noise was not the normal doorbell sound, and did not come from the chime set up near the front door. I traced this noise down to my basement, and was coming from a possible re-lay unit. I disconnected one of the wires to this unit, eliminating the noise but effectively terminating my doorbell. Any ideas as to what caused this problem? Do I need a new system? Are they easy to install? Or do I simply need a new relay unit? Thanks in advance for any and all answers. BGHRead More

Wiring second doorbell chime

I am finishing my basement. We are getting ready for drywall in about a week. I can't hear our front doorbell in the basement and want to add a second chime in the basement. I have taken the first chime (#1) off the wall on the main floor. I can access the 2 incoming wires to chime #1 (one from the front doorbell and a second one from the transformer located in the basement. I have fed a wire up the wall from the basement and it is currently waiting at chime #1 to connect. My current transformer says 10VA, 16V on it - ?Can I use this transformer for these two chimes? Chime #1 has an open terrminal labeled rear ( Though I think that is for a rear door button?) Can you advise me how to properly connect the new wires for chime #2 to the current system: Front button, chime#1 and transformer. All wires are red and white. do you need more info?
