Knob and tube question

Hey, I was given an electronic mouse remover that says it works by sending a pulsing signal through the neutral wire and works on most standard wiring. is Knob and tube considered to still be a standard type. do these things cause damage? should I plug it into my outlets?

Go for it and see if it works. The only thing I would think it could hurt is some interference with tv or something.

one switch, two outlets

My house was built in the 1950's. I have a room wall switch that controlls two outlets at once. If I disconnect the switch, will the outlets still operate? Option two: Could I use the switch for one outlet and not for the other one? Thanks.

Need help with wiring in a basement

I'm running wire for lighting in the basement that i'm finishing. There are 4 different areas: one having 8 recessed lights, one having 6 recessed lights and two having 4 recessed lights. They all share a 20 amp or 15 amp circuit. I want to control each of these 4 areas with one switch (or dimmer), but all of the swiches (or dimmers) will be located at one place. Please tell me what is the best way to wire this (please be specific). BTW, I do have access to the ceiling joists (drywall has not been installed). Thanks in advance.
