ceiling fan

I moved a ceiling fan and in the process, the blue wire came loose and I don't know where it connects. There is a blue wire on the motor switch that isn't connected and a blue wire in the main harness. When I connect the blue wires together the light works, the fan motor runs, but the motor will not shut off nor change speeds. Ooops. Can anyone help?

Thank you

Sounds like you are applying voltage directly to one of the "fan speed" wires. The voltage needs to go to the "common" wire on the motor switch. The switch then sends the voltage out on the fan speed wires alternately as you pull the chain. What are the colors of all the wires on your fan motor switch?

ceiling fan

Hello mcjunk;
The switch has blue as # 1, black # 2, black on C, and 3 and 4 are empty. # 1 black goes to capacitor, blue is not connected, and the black # C is an ac wire. We have 1 white, 2 black, 1 brown and 1 blue in the harness.
Thanks

Ceiling fans have three wires 9not including grounds) that can be connected to the house wiring - a black, blue and white. White of course is neutral and is connected to the white wire in the fixture box. The black wire is for fan control, the blue wire is for light kit control. If you only have one wall switch to control the fan with only a black and white to hook to at your fixture box, then you would hook the black & blue to the black house wire. The reason there is a separate wire for the fan and the light is so that the two functions can be controlled by two different light switches if the proper wiring is installed (two different switched feeds).

With that in mind, your blue wire coming from the top of the fan should be connected to the integral light switch and the black coming from the fan should be tied to the integral fan control switch.

Not sure what you mean by black is an "AC wire". Is it hooked to anything? Anyway, the blue wire coming from the top of the fan (connection point) should not be connected to the motor switch. I don't really understand where the "harness" goes either. If you can't figure it out using the tip about the blue/light and black/fan wires, then see if you can call the manufacturer for a wiring diagram.
