GFCI in Garage Keeps "Tripping"

Usually this only happens when my wife uses her hair dryer. But now, it trips and I cannot reset it. Nothing is plugged into it either.

1) Why is this damn thing set to trip so easily? Hair dryer running.
2) What can I do about it?

TIA!

GFCI receptacles do wear out. As an $8 experiment, replace it. Be exceptionally careful to wire the new one like the old one, paying close attention to "line" and "load". There are lots of ways to screw it up, but careful attention to detail will avoid them all.

However, this may not solve the problem. It may be the hair dryer. If you have another GFCI protected circuit in your house, try the hair dryer there as an experiment. You may need to replace the hairdryer next.

I'll try that. But now (even without running the hair dryer), it won't let me reset the recepticle.
