Upgrading Wiring

I have an old bungalow with 60 amp wiring. I only have a half basement, the rest being crawl space. Does anyone know if this would present a major problem if I were to want to upgrade to 100 amp service?

I don't see a problem. Can you describe why you think there might be a problem?

Getting into the crawl space might be difficult. There is access at the side of the house, but it looks a bit small.

I do not believe you would need to get into the crawl space to upgrade your service. My guess is that neither your service entrance nor your panel is in the crawl space, and that's all you need access to to upgrade your service.

But perhaps you are not talking about the service upgrade, but rather you are talking about installing new branch circuits off your new service. A service upgrade does not automatically include new branch circuits, nor rewiring of existing branch circuits.

Upgrading/installing branch circuits often involves working in uncomfortably tight, dirty, damp and critter-infested crawl spaces, and uncomfortably hot and dusty attics. It comes with the territory.

Hi, Thanks so much for your response. I actually have my place on the market and I'm obsessing about the crawl space (will it be possible to get in there, is it a dirt floor and if so is that a big drawback etc.) Personally, I couldn't go in there if someone paid me $1,000,000 so it's fortunate not everyone is claustrophobic. Thanks again

It's possible you'll need an exterior Service Dis-connect if the crawl-space is between the Utility meter and the Service panel.
