light switches

There is a brass screw and a silver screw on the light switch. Which is connected to the black wire and which is connected to the white wire?

On a single pole light switch it doesn't matter.

It's unusual to find a brass and silver screw on an ordinary light switch. I'm not sure what kind of switch you have, nor how many wires are in your box, so any advice you get based on such sketchy information is not very reliable. But in general, the old adage of black-to-brass, white-to-silver should be used if you don't have some reason to do it differently.

If you'd care to provide more information, we can probably give better advice.

Could this be a lighted switch that also requires a neutral?
