recessed cans vs standard fixture

Are there any advantages/disadvantages between the two in a suspended ceiling application? I have standard fixtures laying around I could use, but I'm guessing I would need some sort of special extended box to use with the ceiling.
Appreciate any thoughts.

There are "T-bar brackets" for use with suspended ceilings that clip to the grid and you mount an octagon box to for use with fixtures. I'm not sure if the big box stores carry them, but any electrical supply house will have them.

GFCI Plug - Dusk to Dawn Problem

We've got an outdoor light hooked to a dusk to dawn sensor. I put a GFCI outlet between the light and the sensor so I could plug in other outdoor items that I only want to light at night. This week I plugged in a portable sign to the GFCI outlet. The sign has GFCI on the plug. Problem is, when the circuit is off (during daylight) the GFCI on the plug trips, indicating ground was interrupted. But the GFCI on the outlet never trips. Any ideas how to troubleshoot/rewire?

I'm installing a new 20-amp circuit in my garage to run shop tools. The breaker box is in the garage and the total run is approximately 25 feet. I have elected to use metal boxes and conduit mounted on the walls. Is 12 gauge-stranded wire a good option and if so should any special termination methods be used at the receptacles or breaker? Is there any difference in current carrying capacity or temperature dissipation?
