burn out
#1

Hi all. Great forum. Question. I have bulbs that always burn out more quicly than all others in the house. I have two in the kitchen (40w) above the sink, and two halogens outside. The halogens are 40w and are linked to a third halogen and regular outdoor landscape low voltage lights. The kitchens burn out around every month. The halogens go about two months and when they do the electrical wire is fried at the tip. Any ideas?

It could be that the fixtures aren't compatible with the additional heat produced by the halogen bulbs. That would explain the fried wire tips. Also, the trapped heat could be what is causing the shortened life of the bulb.

Actually the haogen bulbs are rated at 3000 hours, they are only on from 6pm to 1am every night. The kitchen bulbs are standard GE and on only at night from 9pm to 7am. The kitchen ones always go intermittently rotating between left and right, and sometimes as soon as I flip the switch. The halogens have worked for years with no problems and then started with this burn out leaving the wires burnt. I have to cut the wire down to clean and reconnect the bulbs. Could the transformer on the outside lights be going? Could the kitchen light switch have a loose connection or short?

Your burning the kitchen lights 3000 hrs a month ? Wow, I thought you Californians were more energy concious (sp. ? ) than that
Not sure what kind of outside lights you are talking about. Are these 24 volt halogens ? Are the fixtures rated for 40 watt halogen lamps
