electrical wiring problem - see attach diagram

I just finish wiring a ceiling fan box from an existing switch. This switch controls two outlets in the wall. When the switch turns on the two outlets gets the power, when the switch turns off, however, the ceiling fan box is getting the power. Please note, the switch only has this one set of wires coming in from the outlets, and I have extended it to the ceiling fan box.

Attach is the wiring diagram.

Please advise.

thanks

fiveinn.

You may have connected the fan directly across the switch-terminals. When the switch is On the circuit "by-passes" the fan and when the switch is Off the fan is in "series" with the loads connected to the receptacles. The White wire from the fan must NOT be connected to any switch terminal-it must connect to the White wires that connect to the receptacles terminals.---Good Luck!!!

Do you mean that only one cable enters the switchbox? If the answers yes, then you can't wire the fan from the switch. You only have switchlegs and no neutral at the switch.

You extended a switch loop. It is impossible to power your fan from the switch. That cable you ran from the switch to the fan will need to run from the switched receptacle to the fan instead. Post back when you get this done and we'll tell you how to hook it up.

Does the ceiling fan have a light kit? If so and you don't need to switch the receptacles anymore, you can do this with just a few connection changes. No other cables would need to be run.
