series wiring

I've tried to run a line from the box to the other box, but it either dosen't work or it trips the breaker. I have the one comming off of my light switch in the house, so as I don't have to go out in the cold( christmas time) to shut the lights off that I have on the deck.

Give us more details. It's impossible to spot the flaw from what you have provided so far. What wires were present at the existing receptacle? How was it connected before? What kind of cable did you run between boxes? How did you connect it at each end? Is the breaker that it trips a GFCI breaker, or an ordinary breaker? Is there a GFCI somewhere on this circuit (I hope so!)?

From Bob:
John: I have a gfci breaker,I have a black, white and ground wire
in the reciptical. Ive tried running all three to the other box, that doesn't work, Ive tried running a white wire,no good. the same with the black wire. I have a B,W,Gd wire in the first box.

Now I know how many wires you ran and what their colors were. But I still don't know what kind of wire it is, what size of wire, and how you made the connections at each end. Keep the information coming.
Can I assume that when you say "GFCI breaker", you really are talking about a breaker in your panel with a "TEST" button on it, and that you are not talking about a GFCI receptacle in an electrical box with TEST and RESET buttons? Please clarify.
