Question wires damaged by squirrels

Finally got rid of those bushy-tailed rats otherwise known as squirrels, and while inspecting the attic to see just how much damage they caused I found that there doesn't appear to be a single wire up there that isn't damaged in at least one place or another. Obviously some of it I cannot handle myself (like the main powerline from the meter to the fuse box), but I can't afford to pay to have ALL of it repaired by a professional. Yet I also can't afford to put off replacing or repairing any of it either!

My question is whether or not I can safely splice new cable in to replace the damaged sections (with the understanding that the splices would be as close to the ends as possible) or do I need to replace the entire run from the fuse box to whatever end each cable goes to (light switch, junction box, etc)?

You can splice in new cable if your splices are well made, and in permanently accessible and not overcrowded junction boxes.
