14/2 or 14/3

I want to add a couple of lights at the far end of my shop. Each on it's own switch, but both on the same circuit. The switches will be near the panel and the lights will be at the far end.

Can I safely run one 14/3 to the lights (red from one switch, black from the other switch, share neutral) or do I need to run a separate 14/2 from each switch all the way to it's light? Is the 14/3 setup the nasty multiwire circuit I've seen preached against on this board?

Thanks for your help. Just trying to save a few feet of wire and conduit.

This is not a multiwire circuit, and this is not a "shared neutral" in the way people normally think of that term.

You can run the 14/3 in the manner you describe without problems. It's fine. It's no different than running 14/3 to a ceiling fan and light, except this is two lights instead of a fan and light.
