I am sort of confused
dont you need an electricians licence to wire a house? I dont really have any intention of doing any electrical work, but I was always under the impression that you need a licence. Now I hear of all these people wiring their own houses.

It varies by area.
In most areas, a person who owns and lives in a home is allowed to do any electrical work they want to their own house, assuming they pull any required permits and have any required inspections.
In other areas, you are allowed to do the same, but only after passing some sort of test that demonstrates competence.
And in still other areas, only licensed electricians can do any work.
In almost all areas, only a licensed electrician can work on somebody else's house, or even work on a rental house that they own.
