Doorbell

I have an old chime doorbell (was here when we moved 5 yrs ago). Yesterday someone rang the bell and now the box is humming. I removed the cover and cleaned out the dust but do not know what to do next. Can you help? Thanks

Go out and jiggle the doorbell button. It is stuck.

elec. dryer wiring

I'm trying to run new wiring from 100 amp box to move dryer from basement to upstairs in kitchen. Current wire from box has 4 wires wrapped in ins. looks like 2 hot and 2 ground (red and black wire are hot, white wire and paper wrapped wire are ground at top). Purchased 50 ft. 10/3 wire to run from box. (has black wire and white wire with paper wrapped down middle. Can I use this, or do I have to get conduit with 4 wires in it? 2 red wires in ceiling fixture - how to test?

I have 2 red wires in the ceiling acting as a black and white wire (but I don't know which is which). I think the person who owned the house before may have done this. I took down the ceiling fan that was there without first noticing that the wires were not black and white (I know, I know). How should I go about figuring out which wire is "black" (hot) and which is "white"? I have a VOM. There is one wall switch that controls both the fan and its lights. What would happen if I got them backwards?! I assume the ceiling fan would be "hot," but what would I have to do to get shocked?!Read More
